Enhancing sow performance for better progeny results

One of our most recent studies, presented in the DACH region acknowledged BOKU Symposium in Vienna, showed compelling insights into the effects of butyrin supplementation on sow and piglet performance. Conducted in Brazil in 2022, the trial explored the impact of butyrin supplementation during gestation and lactation phases, demonstrating promising outcomes for swine management practices. 

The trial showcased improvements in piglet numbers, 活产, and a significant reduction in stillborn piglets among butyrin-supplemented groups. 也, piglets from sows fed butyrin performed better after weaning, showing how butyrins can help sows produce more and healthier piglets.   

Progeny from butyrin-treated sows showed significant post-weaning improvements, with increased average daily weight gain and feed intake in the initial eight days of the nursery phase. Notably, benefits were more pronounced when both sows and piglets received butyrin (table 1).

Performance Parameter It was concluded that butyrin supplementation from day 35 of pregnancy improved productive performance of sows and additionally impacted the piglet’s performance postweaning, with enhanced effects when supplemented to piglets after weaning. These findings highlight the results of previous research on the significant benefits of butyrin supplementation in promoting sows and piglets postweaning performance.
